Not everyone will understand your journey. That’s fine. It’s not their journey to make sense of. It’s yours.

What it means to be truly wealthy

True wealth isn’t flashy and it doesn’t exist in things.

True wealth is accumulated through the positive impact one has on the world. And it’s traded in kindness and positive energy.

True wealth doesn’t exist in bank accounts. It only exists in the minds and hearts of the people one touches & inspires throughout their lifetime and beyond.

True wealth isn’t measured by the value of the things you have, it’s measured by how valuable you are without them.

If you want to know what it feels like to be truly wealthy, never underestimate the time spent doing things that have a positive impact on others.

True wealth doesn’t involve dollar signs because true wealth is beyond measuring.

Don’t live your life wearing a disguise.

It’s better to be your genuine self and have fewer of the right kinds of people in your life than it is to surround yourself with those who only accept you as long as you conform to their idea of who you should be.

Don’t live your life wearing a disguise.

When you refuse to be anything but your genuine self, you give those who are most compatible with who you are a chance to find you.

Never fear being rejected by those who seek to confine you to their expectations. It’s OK not to be liked or accepted by everyone you cross paths with on your journey.

You have to live your own life, learn from what life experiences provide you and evolve into the person you were meant to be.

Sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back and let go of things that are keeping you from making progress in life in order to make space for more of the things that will help you fulfill your potential.

Relationships & teamwork

From acquaintances to best friends to married couples, all great friendships involve teamwork.

Teamwork sits alongside trust, communication, and tolerance as a building block of the best relationships.

Teamwork is not “What can I get out of this relationship?”, it’s “What can I bring to this relationship to make it better?”

Teamwork is the combined commitment to overcome obstacles. It’s support. It’s encouragement. It’s working together.

It’s rising to the challenge of bettering yourself for the benefit of the whole. It’s providing the support & encouragement necessary to help others better themselves and succeed in their endeavors.

Whether it’s providing a kind word, sincere appreciation, a listening ear, or something else entirely, never stop trying to add value to your relationships.

Never underestimate the power of teamwork.

Never stop asking, “What can I do to make this relationship better?”

“They suck.”

Think of a group of people you don’t like.

Now realize there are people in the world who don’t like a group of people that you fall within.

Whether it’s because of your profession, the color of your skin, your cultural background or something else entirely, you are disliked by people who don’t even know you simply because you fall within a stereotype.

Think it’s fair? Probably not. They don’t know you or what motivates you, how could it be fair?

If you’ve ever been stereotyped and didn’t like it, then refuse to stereotype others no matter how accurate you think the stereotype is.

It should go without saying, but no two people are exactly alike.

Every person on the planet draws upon a unique history of life experiences that shape who they are, how they see the world, and how they act.

Refuse to rely on a generalization or oversimplification from which to judge a group of people.

Resist disrespecting and speaking badly about others just because family, friends, the media, or society considers it acceptable to paint an entire race, culture, or group of people in a negative light.

Whatever your lifestyle preferences may be, respect people enough to give others a chance to show who they are by how they act.

Some of the best friendships in the world are between people who don’t necessarily agree on everything. It is our differences from one another that help us grow and push us to see the world from a perspective other than the one we’ve grown most comfortable with.

ster·e·o·type
noun
1. a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

[This is not to say throw caution to the wind when you are in unfamiliar territory. Be cautious, be aware of your environment, and understand & respect cultural differences. This is simply to say that if you don’t like being stereotyped, don’t stereotype others.]

If not now, when?

If you don’t take steps to overcome your shyness, procrastination, bad habits, or any other thing that may lead to issues in your life, when are you going to?

If you don’t get on the path to living a healthier lifestyle soon, when will you?

If you don’t make concrete plans to do the awesome things you’ve always wanted to do, when will they get done?

If you don’t develop the discipline necessary to follow through with your New Year’s resolutions year after year, will you ever?

The fact is, people often put things off until it’s too late. We fall victim to the belief that there will always be time.

But time passes. It never stops.

Days, weeks, months, even years go by without people taking action on the things they intended to do.

One only gets to experience what it’s like to be and do things at a certain age when one is that age.

You’ll only be young once. You’ll only be in your twenties, thirties, forties… once. And in every decade that passes, you are no longer the same. Lifestyles, responsibilities, priorities change.

Of all the things we get in life, we can never get more time.

If you want to accomplish anything in life, you can’t just think about it. And you can’t just keeping pushing it off until the time is right or everything is perfect.

You have to commit to taking action on whatever it is you truly wish to do.

Commit to writing down what you truly want to do in life. Commit to taking the steps necessary to figure out how to do it. Break down every aspect of what you wish to accomplish into achievable goals. And then commit to meeting them.

Make it happen.

Be an encourager

be-an-encourager-zero-dean

It is far more effective to be a person who encourages others than it is to spend one’s time finding faults, criticizing, or judging people.

Not only will you feel better about yourself as a result of being a force for good, you’ll be making a positive difference in people’s lives.

Refuse to put people down. Refuse to judge those who aren’t exactly like you. Refuse to do to others what you wouldn’t like done to you.

Remember that everyone lives their lives in a way that reflects what they’ve learned from life experience.

Not everyone thinks the same. Not everyone knows what you know. Not everyone has the same level of awareness.

Help people live their lives in a positive way by encouraging more of what you’d like to see in the world.

Lift people up. Raise people’s spirits. Make friends, not enemies.

Help educate people by being a good example.

Be kind. Be encouraging. Be honest. Be tolerant.

Inspire others to live with integrity.

Lead by example.

Propaganda

If your source of news has a consistent opinionated narrative, it isn’t news, it’s propaganda.

True news delivers the details without spin.

It should be up to individual audience members to make up their own minds based on the information provided and not have opinions marketed to them in order to promote a particular agenda.

Stories can be easily altered by repeatedly focusing on a single point, perspective, or person or by not sharing or airing key details.

Learn to recognize when you’re being mislead, misdirected, and manipulated by the media.

Remember to fact check and don’t rely on only a single source of information (or meme).

Know that there is always more than a single side to a story and that repeatedly stating something doesn’t make it true.

Refuse to let the media pit you against people or causes you know nothing about except what they’ve told you.

Form your own opinions, don’t let your opinions be formed for you.

“How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it a leg.” — Abraham Lincoln

Integrity and independent thinking

Gathering data to make an informed opinion is one thing. Simply waiting to agree with the crowd is something else entirely.

Being yourself and maintaining your integrity means standing up for what you believe to be right and true whether it’s in the company of a crowd or not.

Fear of self-expression is a form of self-imposed slavery.

What’s your message?

Catching people’s attention, getting exposure, or having an audience is a wasted opportunity if what one has to offer is rarely engaging, meaningful, or thought-provoking.

Don’t just say or share something because you can, have something to say and express yourself with intention.

When you communicate with a purpose other than simply filling space, your message becomes much more effective and your life more meaningful.

Whether you have an audience of one or one million, remember that how you act and what you say is your message to the world.

Be a voice. Live with intention. Lead by example.
