Not everyone will understand your journey. That’s fine. It’s not their journey to make sense of. It’s yours.

Social media manipulation

If you’re not posting what you truly want to post on social media, but are instead posting things based on what you think will garner the most likes or engagement, you may think you’re manipulating the system, but the fact is, you’re the one being manipulated.

When you skip the opportunity to post what actually speaks to you, but instead post based on what you think will be popular, you’re playing into the hands of social media companies who have trained you to do their bidding.

Use it or lose it

I spent nearly 10 years paying to store things I eventually got rid of. And all the money I spent on storage could’ve paid to re-acquire the things I stored. In the end, I spent a lot of money to learn that if you don’t use it, there’s a good chance you don’t actually need it.

“I’m keeping this because I’m going to do something with it.” is one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves.

If we’re not careful, the things we own often end up owning us.

If you don’t use it, get it to someone who will.

Fault-finding vs appreciation-seeking

There’s nothing difficult about finding faults, flaws, and things to disagree with — which is why so many people seemingly make a sport of it.

When you find yourself with a predominantly negative view of people (or life in general), it can help to change your focus from fault-finding to appreciation-seeking.

“What can I appreciate about this person, this moment, or this thing?” is a question that will often leave one feeling far better for having asked it than simply focusing on all the things one doesn’t like.

Meaningful travel

In the modern world, it’s relatively easy to go almost anywhere. Checking a box off a list doesn’t make it meaningful.

It isn’t the number of countries you’ve been to that make you interesting, it’s the meaningful experiences you’ve had, the lessons you’ve learned along the way, and the stories you have to share that do.

If your impetus to travel is just to tick off boxes, rather than to seek out meaningful and life-changing experiences, you’re kind of missing the point.

It’s not the number of places you’ve been to or how far you’ve traveled to get there that actually matters, it’s what made your journey meaningful along the way that does.

Have the courage to be different

It’s better to have the courage to be different than be the type of person who makes fun of people for having the courage to be different.

One reflects strength & bravery, the other reflects weakness & fear.

If you’re different, be proud of that shit.

Success and Self-improvement

Whether we’re talking about success or self-improvement, it’s important to recognize that the paths to both will be dotted with discomfort. And, in order to find things that work for you, you’ll likely have to try many things that don’t. But rather than be embarrassed about your failures, you should be proud that you’re leaving proof of your efforts to attain what you’re striving for.
