Not everyone will understand your journey. That’s fine. It’s not their journey to make sense of. It’s yours.

When life shuts a door…

Seen in a meme:

“When life shuts a door… Open it again. It’s a door. That’s how they work.”

Yes, doors may work that way, but opportunities don’t.

But that doesn’t mean other opportunities don’t exist.

The key to maximizing one’s potential to meet opportunities is to not passively wait for opportunities to land on one’s lap, and instead, continually be on the lookout for new ones.

And if no opportunities appear to exist, take steps to facilitate their existence. Learn new skills, hone existing ones, and try to view the world from a different angle.

Often, a change of perspective is enough to draw one’s attention to opportunities that were cleverly disguised as something else.

Don’t close yourself off to potential opportunities simply because you don’t see them from your current level of awareness.

Keeping an open mind and believing that opportunities exist — despite one’s ability to immediately see them — is often enough to keep them from going unnoticed.

Those who don’t look for opportunities will have to settle for the rare few that land on their lap.

Be the indispensable lead of your own life story

be-the-indispensable-lead-of-your-own-life-story-zero-dean

“If you don’t build your own dream someone else will hire you to help build theirs.” — Tony Gaskins Jr.

It’s better to be the indispensable lead of your own life story than a dispensable part of someone else’s.

Remember to live your life by choice not by chance.

“Don’t put the key to your happiness is someone else’s pocket.”

Have a purpose. Set goals. Aim high. And take action.

“When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen.”

Direct your life. Don’t just drift.

“The amount of satisfaction you get from life depends largely on your own ingenuity, self-sufficiency, and resourcefulness. People who wait around for life to supply their satisfaction usually find boredom instead.” — Dr. William Menninger

The moment you are certain that you know the one and only way…

the-moment-you-are-certain-that-you-know-the-one-and-only-way-zero-dean

One’s perception of the world is a reflection of one’s beliefs. What a person believes to be true is sometimes discovered not to be.

Harboring the belief “I could be wrong” is not only the sign of an open mind, it’s far more conducive to triggering personal growth than “I’m right.” or “This is the one and only way.”

Rather than close the door to additional information, it keeps one’s mind open to additional knowledge and experiences that could impact one’s belief system.

One’s mind is rarely receptive to things it thinks it already knows the answer to.

“I could be wrong” is far more beneficial to one’s belief system than “I’m absolutely right without question.”

Remaining open to new information, new experiences, and new beliefs is essential to personal growth.

You don’t grow in response to what you already know.

The moment you are certain that you know the one and only way is the moment you leave no room to learn that you’re wrong (even if you’re right).

Keep an open mind.

“It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.” — Claude Bernard

The path to success isn’t a straight line

Don’t stop working towards a goal just because the path to it isn’t as direct or as easy as you hoped it would be. It is often the lessons one learns on their journey that are exactly what one needs to complete it.

Create an environment that allows for, nurtures, and sustains happiness

Excerpt from: If you want to be happy

if-you-want-to-be-happy-zero-dean

The more you release yourself from the negatives in your life and let go of the things that are holding you back from being happy, the more you free yourself to adopt a lifestyle that creates an environment that allows for, nurtures, and sustains happiness.

Does your current life reflect who you are today or has it become a reflection of someone you used to be?

You are a different person today than you were last week, let alone years ago when you made decisions and commitments without the knowledge and experience you have at this moment.

Bring your life back in line with your current values & your current level of understanding. And do the things you know are good for you.

Painting the canvas of life

if-ones-thoughts-are-the-medium-zero-dean

If one’s thoughts are the medium with which they paint their life, one’s actions are the brushstrokes.

It is the skill with which one is able to direct both their thoughts & actions — and the synergy between the two — that allows one to manifest the kind of life they desire.

The more control a person gains over their self, the more control they gain over their life. The more control a person has over their life, the happier they tend to be.
